"Modern Family" season 7 episode 8 will not be airing this Wednesday, Nov. 25. Instead, ABC will air season 6's Thanksgiving episode titled "Three Turkeys."
According to International Business Times, no new episode of the ABC comedy will be airing this week. They also had the same approach early this month when they aired last year's Halloween episode, "Awesomeland." The outlet held that it was the network's decision to not film a Halloween and Thanksgiving episode of the sitcom.
Although rumors of "Modern Family" being cancelled circulated early this year, Zap2It claimed that the series was a "sure bet to be renewed by May 2016." Based on the latest statistics, the series had an average of 2.83 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The show was able to sustain a pretty steady audience the entire six seasons.
A netizen commented that the series will mostly last until season 9, pointing out that the cast members had signed a contract for at least nine seasons.
"I found an article dated a year or so ago with the Modern Family creators, who say that at that moment ending the show around season 8 or 9 would seem right," theratingsjunkie wrote.
When asked about the possibility of the show getting cancelled, Sofia Vergara admitted that she will be "very sad" when that happens.
She said that she will miss everyone in the cast, adding that it was very easy to work with them. Vergara added that it was effortless to play the role of Gloria since she already knew the character so well.
