Idris Elba: Isn't James Bond Supposed To Be Handsome?

| Dec 28, 2014 10:47 AM EST

Idris Elba stars in “Beasts of No Nation" and "Star Trek Beyond.”

Idris Elba finally responded to the rumors of him being the next James Bond after Daniel Craig via Twitter.

In the midst of the Sony Pictures data breach, sensitive emails from Sony executives were leaked. One of which is from Amy Pascal saying that "Idris should be the next Bond."

On Twitter, Elba posted a photo of him wearing a beanie today with the caption "Isn't 007 supposed to [be] handsome?"

Some fans are supportive of Elba's potential lead role as Agent 007 in the James Bond franchise.

An online campaign was even started by MTV urging fans to make a petition to make the British actor the next James Bond.

However, not all are thrilled with the idea of Elba being the new James Bond.

For instance, conservative political commentator Rush Limbaugh said that a "black Briton" is not "who James Bond is." But, the radio talk show host did admit that his point was "racist."

Even before the leaked Sony emails, Elba, who is also a DJ, rapper, singer and a producer, has already addressed the rumors about him being the next 007 agent.

In September, Elba took part in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA), where he answered whether he would grab the chance when the 007 agent role is offered to him.

Elba said that he will "absolutely" take up the offer if it was given to him.

However, when asked about the possibility of him being James Bond, Elba told NPR in 2011 that he does not want to be called the "black James Bond."

Daniel Craig, who is the current James Bond, still has the "Spectre" film to be finished.
