Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy create Frankenstein in Paul McGuigan's "Victor Frankenstein."

"Victor Frankenstein" director Paul McGuigan has voiced his thoughts on his version of the film and the iconic character Frankenstein.

McGuigan wanted to lay a new ground in the film with his own storytelling. In his interview with Screen Rant, the director said that he and the team gave a lot of backstory to it and it was their backstory, it was what they had chosen to make up.

According to McGuigan, there was not a reverence to the book, as he thought that people sometimes were over-reverent about it. For the "Victor Frankenstein" director, while the book had got a spectacular premise, he did not know if one had ever read it and it was "dull as dishwater."

McGuigan's statements entail that while he respects the source material upon which "Victor Frankenstein" was based, he does not have a sense of commitment to telling that particular story. Given the trailers and promotional materials, McGuigan's "Victor Frankenstein" is set to showcase a modernized, action-heavy, and "buddy movie."

According to Cinema Blend, McGuigan's choice to tell the story in his own style could stand as a "double-edged sword" for filmmakers or others who are adapting a story. Although some audience desire to see the story get a unique flavor in the big screen, others look for the elements that are shared by the source material and the cinematic adaptation.

Based on contemporary adaptations of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel "Frankenstein," "Victor Frankenstein" shows through Igor's perspective a young assistant's dark origins and redemptive bond with a young medical student Victor Frankenstein. With the use of scientific principles, they attempted to create life from death, leading to the rise of the iconic Frankenstein.

The film stars Daniel Radcliffe, James McAvoy, Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott, and Charles Dance, among others.

McGuigan's "Victor Frankenstein" is still showing in theaters.
