Tesla will be dishing out a new firmware update for both of its Model S P85D and 85D dual-motor electronic cars that will increase the top speed cap up to 155 miles per hour and will make adjustments to the torque.

Initially, the top speed of the P85D and 85D is electronically capped at 130 miles per hour. The Tesla update will boost the cap and match the speed limiter to higher-end sedans.

According to Green Car Reports, the Tesla update, which will come "in the coming months," will be free of charge and will also be available for lifetime.

SlashGear reports that Tesla has another update in the works. A new sleep control system for the EV's torque will be able to switch unused drive units to sleep mode and will only be awakened once the driver hits the accelerator, giving the Tesla P85D, which has a horsepower of 691, a potential 10 percent increase in its 253-mile driving range.

A few days earlier, Tesla CEO Elon Musk also announced an upcoming update for the Tesla Roadster, giving Tesla's early EV model an almost double increase to its driving range from 240 up to 400 miles.

In addition, Tesla also announced last week that it is testing its new battery swapping technology for its Model S EVs. The technology will significantly decrease the time to recharge by simply replacing the battery for a new one. The current "supercharge" time for the electronic car is around 30 minutes, while the battery swap will only take less than 10 minutes.
