The HBO Emmy-winning series "Girls" is back and the extended trailer shows its characters in different directions.

The band of 20-something New Yorker women are facing significant changes in their lives: Hanna (Lena Dunham) has a new beau in Fran (Jake Lacy), and is living with Elijah (Andrew Rannells),  Shoshana (Zosia Mamet) is in Japan doing some soul-searching, Jessa (Jemima Kirke) is seems to be doing good as a counsellor but is now meaner to Hannah and Marnie (Allison Williams) is getting married.

According to The Japan Times, there will be a Shoshana-centric episode filmed in Japan. Dunham, who visited the country with Jenni Konner to produce the episode said, "We really wanted to give Shoshanna the chance to find herself without the other girls."

Bringing Shoshana to Japan was Konner's idea. She said that Tokyo's wild street fashion reminded her of Shoshana as a character.

The trailer has Shoshana confident that her decision to run away from her problems was worth it. She said, "You know how people say that you can't run away from your problems?," then added, "Well I moved away from mine and it worked so people are so wrong."

Elsewhere, a biggest drama draw in the entire trailer Marnie's impeding marriage to Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Visibly apprehensive, Marnie rants to Hannah, "The very least you could do right now is to pretend that I might be doing the right thing." Hanna on the other hand, thinks that Marnie is marrying a man that she barely knew.

Also seen in the trailer is Adam Driver who will return as Hannah's eh beau, Adam alongside Alex Karpovsky as Ray.

"Girls" is a comedy-drama series created by Dunham for HBO. The show is lauded by critics for its humor and realistic portrayal of women and their relationships in mainstream media.

In April, Dunham told Variety that the show may conclude after six seasons but clarified that nothing has been cast in stone yet.

"Girls" Season 5 opens on Feb. 21, 2015.
