Ty Lawson

The NBA Trade rumors highlight Ty Lawson, a player that has been declared to be in the block.

From this Bleacher Report article, the Houston Rockets are gauging interest from the league for their newly acquired point guard. It helps the Rockets cause that they convinced him to make the second year of his contract unguaranteed, otherwise he would be untradeable.

It would be fortunate news for Houston GM Daryl Morey to hear that the Portland Trail Blazers could be interested. According to fan site Rip City Project, Lawson has off-court issues but the talent is still there. He is just the type of player that a rebuilding player can take a chance on.

Besides, the Blazers have "a massive hole at back-up point guard" but star player Lillard can also play off the ball-although they would be hard-pressed on defense. Still, Portland can experiment and they could get draft picks for accommodating the Rockets.

However, the Blazers are quick to admit that they don't really have assets to offer the Rockets-most of them left in the off-season. So RCP suggested that a three-way trade.

It was previously reported that a trade for OJ Mayo could benefit the Rockets but they might have to include Terrence Jones in the package to address the Bucks deficiency on defense. A possible variation on that theme that would include the Blazers could be a better option.

A three-way trade that passes the Real GM trade checker has OJ Mayo going to the Rockets, Ty Lawson going to the Blazers and Mason Plumlee reuniting with brother Miles with the Bucks. The Blazers thin cap allows them to absorb Lawson's salary with just Mason P. going out, but the Rockets should allow them a second round pick at least.

The Blazers can try anything at this stage, and if Lawson returns to form in a less pressured environment, then they win the trade. If not, they could let Lawson walk.
