Android Marshmallow rolling out for Sony Xperia Z3 Plus, Z4, Z5

Many Sony Xperia users are waiting for the Android Marshmallow update. Here is the Android Marshmallow release news for Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5.

According to a Phandroid report, Sony Xperia Z5 models will receive the Android Marshmallow update in January 2016.

The unlocked variants of the Z5 devices will be the first to receive the latest update. However, all carriers do not issue a software release for a device simultaneously. One carrier may release the software update in a particular month; however, another carrier may release the Android 6.0 M update months after. Therefore, some owners may have to wait longer to receive the Android Marshmallow update on their Z5.

Also, according to reports, the tech giant Sony has declared that 10,000 Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 users can upgrade to Android Marshmallow by participating in the company's test program - Concept For Android: Marshmallow.

To join the test program, owners should sign-up through the company's official application. Selected users will be notified by Sony during the period.

Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 owners in Germany, Ireland, United Kingdom, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Denmark or Sweden should look at the 'Concept Sign-up' app to register. Users need to read complete details as well as terms and conditions.

In July, the company's Concept for Android, was launched as a beta initiative that allowed owners of Xperia users to try out concept software builds for Xperia devices. The results were satisfactory that prompted Sony to start 'Sony's Concept for Android: Marshmallow' edition.

The beta program was restricted to a particular region in Europe. According to reports, owners of Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 who had registered for beta testing got Sony's concept build of Android Marshmallow in the week starting on October 19.

At present, the build is getting its first over-the-air update. Users involved in the testing will have to wait for some time because the update will be rolled out slowly.
