Angelina Jolie and her two sons met Pope Francis after the screening of "Unbroken" at the Vatican's Apostolic Palace on Thursday, Today reported.

Universal Studios revealed that the Pope is aware of the life of World War II hero Louis Zamperini, which the movie is based and he welcomed the film.

Although the Pope was not able to attend the private screening, other Vatican leaders and the son of Zamperini, Luke graced the event.  "Unbroken" was shown at the Casina Pio IV, head office of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, People reported.

Jolie said that she is honored to screen the film she directed at the Vatican and to feature the life of Zamperini who is "a man of faith and someone who exemplified the power of forgiveness and the strength of the human spirit."

The Pope reportedly gave them Vatican souvenirs, which are most probably rosaries and the meeting lasted for a few minutes.

It was previously reported that Jolie and her husband Brad Pitt are set to meet Pope Francis in Italy. Pitt was not around in the actual meeting but the couple's head of security flew to the country ahead of time to check on the area before the family arrived, according to Daily Mail.

An insider revealed that the famous couple admired the Catholic Church leader's speech about homosexuality in 2013. Pope Francis said that he has no right to judge a gay person who "searches for the Lord and has goodwill."

It can be recalled that the pair are both supporters of gay marriage and they decided to wait to tie the knot until same sex marriage is legalized. However, the couple was not able to dismiss the insistent request of their kids and got married on August 2014, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Meanwhile, Jolie and Pitt are set to star in a romantic film this year about saving a marriage entitled "By the Sea."
