Amazon has unveiled a new version of the Fire HD 8 tablet called the Reader’s Edition.
The Reader’s Edition is designed for readers. Its Blue Shade feature is a display optimization program that limits exposure to blue light at night, Venture Beat reported. The display brightness switches to an ultra-low level, while still making the text visible enough to read with comfort. The feature, which can be turned off, also offers warm color filters and lets users fine-tune the color settings to their preference.
The new Amazon tablet features the latest Fire OS 5 “Bellini” software. In addition, the Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition comes with a year of Kindle Unlimited, which allows the users to read up to one million books in that library, and gives users access to unlimited audiobooks which would normally cost $9.99 as far as subscriptions are concerned. It has a limited edition leather cover that ships in a rustic brown color as well.
It offers the same hardware as the Fire HD 8, including the 8-inch display with 1280 x 800 screen resolution, quad-core processor, 5MP rear camera, and up to 128GB of expandable storage via MicroSD.
Along with Blue Shade, the Reader’s Edition highlights the same features like the Amazon’s Bookerly font, which is designed to improve reading on digital screens, and Word Runner that focuses on one word at a time to make it easier to read.
Amazon is not the first company to pitch tablets at reader. Samsung and Barnes & Noble have brought a broad range of hybrids to market and Kobo has, too.
The Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition is open for pre-orders now, and will start shipping on Dec. 8, according to Ubergizmo. It also comes with a limited edition leather cover, and the entire package is priced at $249.99.
