Google may have plans to launch an auto-insurance shopping website in the United States, where users can purchase insurance policies for their automobiles. Google already has a presence in the auto-insurance domain in United Kingdom since the past two years and may be thinking of diversification into United States as well.

In Britain, Google has an insurance comparison website, which is known as Google Compare. The news about launching a similar site in US was revealed in a blog post by Ellen Carney, who is an analyst with Forrester Research. She revealed that Google was expected to launch the service much earlier, but it has been facing innumerable delays on several fronts.

Carney revealed that in the blog post that Google was to make a formal announcement about the launch in California in December 2014. However, it has been delayed and the new expected date of the launch is in the first quarter of 2015. After launching in California, the company has plans to then launch the service in Texas, Illinois and Pennsylvania.

After visiting public records, Carney found out that Meredith Stechbart, a Google employee, had recently been authorized to sell insurance to consumers through their website Google Compare and also through CoverHound, which is another San Francisco based auto insurance website.

Google has refused to confirm or deny the speculations at all. Google spokesperson Anaik Weid said that the company did not have any comment on the speculations that the media is making.
