In their Detroit Auto Show presentation, luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz revealed its newest car, a midsized luxury sports utility vehicle coupe. According to official company statement, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 which is a crossover coupe will go on sale in August this year. It will go head to head with BMW X6, its direct competitor.

The release of the Mercedes GLE coup series is part of the company's strategy to regain the top spot as the world's biggest manufacturer of luxury cars, a title currently held by BMW which it took from Mercedes six years ago. The GLE sports utility vehicle will be the first series of cars to use the "GL" name with the E labeling it as a midsize vehicle.

Even though the GLE series has four doors, Mercedes will still label it a coupe. The GLE will be released with all-wheel-drive and will also have various drive trains.

The GLE 450 AMG 4Matic boasts a 362 horsepower V6 3.0liter twin turbo engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Test results show that in go from zero to 60 miles/hour in less than 4.9 seconds. On the other hand, the Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic has a 577 horsepower V8 5.5liter twin-turbo engine with seven-speed automatic transmission and acceleration record of 60 miles/hour in less than 4.2 seconds.

Mercedes GLE coup series was released to compete with BMW X6 which was released seven years ago. Although the X6 already has left its mark in the mark in the luxury car market, BMW still considers the GLE coup to be a serious threat. In fact BMW has plans of releasing the BMW X7 in order to keep its lead and be ahead of the competition.
