'Thor: Ragnarok' Wants Cate Blanchett In an Unspecified Role

Catherine Élise "Cate" Blanchett is an Australian actress and theatre director.

Marvel Studios wants to tap Hollywood A-lister Cate Blanchett for an undisclosed role in "Thor: Ragnarok."

The "Carol" actress is currently in talks with the studio to play one of the female leads to be introduced in "Thor 3," Variety reported. 

Blanchett may play the role of a villain Screen Rant sources claim. Recently, reports surfaced that "Thor: Ragnarok" is gearing up for an epic clash between the protagonists and Marvel Cinematic Universe's first major female villain. It is yet to be revealed if this is the role that Marvel wants Blanchett to play.

Blanchett is no stranger to fantasy films. The actress has appeared in "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit." Her recent works include "Truth" and "Cinderella." She is currently busy promoting her film "Carol."

It was recently confirmed that "Thor: Ragnarok" will introduce Valkyries, a mythological figure in the comics who are warrior goddesses. They get to pick who among the fallen warriors are worthy to bring to Valhalla.

The third instalment of the franchise promises a cosmic adventure with Chris Hemsworth's Thor leading the way alongside Mark Rufallo's Hulk. The Pre-production will not begin until June next year, but the team is now on the hunt to select actors to join the ensemble.

If Blanchett decides to accept the offer from Marvel, she will join Tom Hiddleston, who will return as Loki, and Jamie Alexander, who plays Lady Sif, Hemsworth and Rufallo.

"Thor: Ragnarok" will be directed by Taika Waititi. The script is penned by Christopher Yost with revisions from Stephany Folsom.

"Thor: Ragnarok" opens on Nov. 3, 2017.
