India-based Direct Satellite Broadcasting Company Tata Sky, initially a joint venture of Tata Sons and STAR India, is considered the first Indian direct-to-home (DTH) operator to introduce 4K Set-top-boxes (STB's) for its consumers, First Post reported.

Tata Sky made an announcement on Jan. 9, 2015, wherein they unveiled the market retail launch of its STB's - Rs 5,900 for existing Tata Sky subscribers while Rs 6,400 charge will be set for new subscriptions.

It can be recalled that this is not the first move of Tata Sky to share 4k content to its consumers as they were already able to do a 4K broadcast during the final match in 2014 FIFA Football World Cup. A lot of people were impressed, not only with the picture quality but also with the overall 4K experience Tata Sky brought to its viewers.

According to NDTV Gadgets, the 4K set-top-box can stream high-definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) channels and is equipped to offer ultra high definition 4K content at 3840 x 2160 pixels with Dolby Digital Plus surround sound.

The 4K STB offering from Tata Sky can be availed through accredited dealers, Tata Sky 24/7 helpline and Tata Sky official website. Existing and new subscribers can also use the Multi TV connection option to avail the 4K STB offering.

This Tata Sky offering is just in time before the ICC Cricket World Cup, in which, would definitely be a great help for the provider to boost their sales and to acquire new subscribers such sports aficionados.
