The theory called panspermia continues to set questions about the origin of life on Earth.

The theory, dating back to the 5th century, states that life can hop between planets including stellar systems to fertilize them with life forms. Then, if the Earth could land astronauts to explore in Mars, we could discover the origins of life on Earth, which would be one of the greatest scientific discoveries, Business Insider reported.

Once a Mars exploration becomes successful to discover answers about this theory, it would impact our identity as species on Earth, the report said.

This is in accordance with belief that, according to planetary scientists, Mars was once a warm and wet planet with planetary conditions that could sustain life by simply studying the planet's atmosphere and soil composition, the report said.

That is why many scientists said that manned mission on mars is necessary.

Bill Nye said in his new book "Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World" that discovery of microbes on Mars that are clearly related to Earth would change the human history, the report added.

But according to NASA Astrobiology and Near Earth Object Programs consultant Linda Billings, such discovery would not come suddenly. Billings said that the discovery of extraterrestrial life would be a prolonged process because it would be subject to peer review by the scientific community as they will look further evidence about such discovery that might be unfold, Yahoo News reported.
