NBA Trade Rumors: Ty Lawson Stuck With Houston Rockets? Possible Taker For Beleaguered Point Guard No Longer Interested

Ty Lawson

The Houston Rockets may have to ride out their one year gamble on point guard Ty Lawson.

The team is reportedly testing the trade waters for the mercurial point guard as reported by CBS.

"Now, the Rockets are contemplating their next move -- and it could involve trying to accommodate a desire on the part of Lawson and his agents to find a trade partner for him," CBS stated. "Easier said than done."

There are not too many teams willing to pay the rest of his $ 12 million salary considering how he has played. The Rockets took a risk despite the off-court issues involving Lawson. He used to be one of the upper-tier point guards in the West and the Rockets win big if he returned to his pre-DUI form.

There are teams with a definite need for a point guard, but NBC notes that the steep price is an issue when they trade.

"The fact Lawson makes $12.4 million adds to the challenge for (Rockets GM) Morey, someone is going to have to give him something of value back to get Lawson, and why would anyone do that?" asked NBC.

While it's true that Lawson is virtually an expiring contract and if the gamble fails, he is gone by the end of the season-but so is the asset that they traded to acquire him-and no team will every surrender any draft pick for him.

The usual suspect for this type of expiring salary dump, the Philadelphia 76ers , are probably not interested anymore because of Jerry Colangelo's  hiring. The veteran executive would not be agreeable to trading away young talent for an overpaid veteran just to acquire a second round draft pick.
