The LA Lakers are currently evaluating their team, specifically the veterans that they acquired this offseason. Now, these players are eligible to be traded again including center Roy Hibbert.
Lakers Nation recently debated the value of their starting center. Should they offer him a new contract and keep him as their center?
Nathaniel Lastrapes said that "Hibbert is a serviceable big man down low who does not produce much offensively, but serves as a defensive anchor who can clog the paint" which is just what they expected.
However, he also mentioned that Hibbert is a great teammate in a "big brother" role for the younger players. Thus, he says that he could see the Lakers make an offer to keep him in the fold.
Trevor Lane has a dissenting opinion. He claims that Hibbert "is not terrible but has underwhelmed." For his size, his average of 6.6 rebounds is not at all satisfactory. Also, the Lakers have one of the worst ratings in defensive efficiency and Hibbert is partly responsible for that. The Lakers should try to see if there will be a market for Hibbert before trying to keep him.
The dissension among the ranks of those who cover the Lakers reflect the fans uncertain sentiment towards him.
The Boston Celtics were rumored as possible trade partners for Hibbert right before the offseason, as Rant Sports suggested them as "perfect fits." A simple trade between him and David Lee might help Hibbert and serve as a trial platform for him.
The only caveat is that the Celtics are rumored to have bigger fish in mind-DeMarcus Cousins and Dwight Howard are among their rumored targets.
