NBA Trade Rumors: Dwight Howard To Phoenix Suns Proposed As Houston Rockets Also Need Long Term Option

Dwight Howard

The Houston Rockets are rumored to be contemplating a move to trade Dwight Howard.

An article from ESPN Insider Kevin Pelton notes good reasons why the Rockets could trade their big free agent acquisition.

Despite having Bird Rights, 29 million is still a steep price to pay, and that's what Howard projects to be worth with the increased cap. It only takes one team willing to overpay and with cap space aplenty, there's bound to be a team willing to fork up the dough.

Besides, the position of Houston's defensive center might be occupied in the near future by Clint Capela. Perhaps the Rockets' could look for a cheaper veteran option to guide Capela before he develops to be a full starter, and that's where the Phoenix Suns can come along.

Both ESPN and Today's Fastbreak named Phoenix as a viable partner. Tyson Chandler could very well take over the role of Howard. The gap between them has been narrowed as Howard is no longer the Defensive Player of the Year candidate of old.

With Howard's gargantuan salary, the Rockets could acquire Markieff Morris, covering two starting positions with D12's paycheck alone. Since the Suns are trading from a position of need with their current problems, they could also throw Archie Goodwin and if it's forced on them, a lottery protected first round pick.

For the Suns, this is because they need a shakeup. Chandler is not working for them because he's assuming the role that they were grooming for LaMarcus Aldridge. Dwight Howard is still a better fit for the Suns than Chandler and with the franchise having multiple issues, a trade, even for Howard, could energize the team.

These are two teams who are predicted to make a move-are they brave and desperate enough to pull off a blockbuster?
