NBA Trade Rumors: Ty Lawson To Brooklyn Nets May Be Only Hope For Houston Rockets; Will They Also Send Dwight Howard?

Ty Lawson

The NBA Trade Rumors continue for the embattled Houston Rockets.

The team just can't find consistency and there are already talks of how they should look ahead since they probably don't have enough to contend for the title.

One of the reasons for their failure this season is their weakness at the point guard position. GM Daryl Morey cannot be faulted for trying to land what was once an elite skipper in Ty Lawson and he even got him without sending any significant value.

However, the gamble did not pay off. Lawson did not return anywhere near his old form and now, CBS reports that the Rockets are trying to trade him and worse, the market for him is "minimal."

"The trade market for him is minimal, league sources tell CBS Sports, and the best move for Houston might be to hold onto him," wrote Ken Berger of CBS.

There is one team that may accept Lawson and that's the hapless Brooklyn Nets. The Nets are in a very unenviable situation of not having draft picks (or obliged to swap them to Boston) so their only hope for improving the roster is via trade and the impending free agency period courtesy of Joe Johnson's huge expiring contract (2nd highest salary in the league next to Kobe Bryant).

The problem is, there aren't a lot of free agents excited to join the Nets in their tough situation. They may have to take their chances in a trade.

In the team site Nets Daily, user ASkubisz suggested trading for Ty Lawson, since he is not a major risk because they can cut him after the season. However, what would they offer the Houston Rockets?

The Nets have Joe Johnson's expiring contract, and the Rockets could use the trade to free up salary. They could also use the transaction to get a center to replace Dwight Howard-who could leave in free agency.

A trade sending Dwight Howard, Ty Lawson and Corey Brewer (a guy they're trying to dispose) to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez works on Real GM trade checker.

The Nets have always coveted Howard and they could take a risk on him to be better than Brook Lopez. Brewer and Lawson could also thrive in the new environment-but basically, this is their only chance to make a change.

For the Rockets, who are rumored to be trading Lawson, Howard and Brewer just got a decent center to replace D12 and also free up the cap for their Kevin Durant pursuit.
