Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto'o allegedly received a massive $27.5 million (R450 million), two and a half year offer from Chinese Super League squad Jiangsu Suning FC during this January transfer window, as per South African website Soccer Laduma.
The 34-year-old striker is currently suiting up for Süper Lig side Antalyaspor after he was signed by the Turkish club in June of last year following successive stints in the Premier League with Chelsea, Everton, and Sampdoria since 2013.
Eto'o, who began his senior career way back in 1997 for Spanish Segunda Division squad CD Leganés, is one of the longest-tenured footballers in the world today. During his so far 19-year career, he also played for La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona from 1998 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2009 respectively.
Cameroon Web noted that "with 13 goals in 17 games, he is currently the joint-top goalscorer in the Super Lig," which means that he can still play at a very high level despite his advancing age. The report also went on to say that the Scorpions are ready to let go of the "ageing superstar" with a transfer fee of $10 million (R166 million).
Jiangsu, who placed ninth in the CSL last season, have also recently acquired 28-year-old Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano from top Italian Serie A squad AC Milan.
The combination of Adriano and Eto'o is potentially lethal for opposing defenses and could greatly help the club in its quest to finally unseat Guangzhou Evergrande as the CSL champions of the last five seasons.
