China's hope for success in the 2016 Australian Open is still very much alive, with three Chinese players still competing in the women's doubles category.
Zheng Saisai, who was eliminated in the second round of the women's doubles in a 6-2 6-3 loss against Great Britain's Johanna Konta, and Xu Yi-Fan, hopes to continue their Australian Open campaign when they face the duo of Russia's Daria Kasatkina and Montenegrin Danka Kovinic.
Another Chinese participant in action in the women's doubles category is Wang Yafan, who teamed up with Czech Barbora Krejcikova.
The tandem has reached the second round after defeating the Belarusian tandem of Alison Van Uytvanck and Yanina Wickmayer 6-3 6-3. Wan and Krejcikova meet Germany's Julia Goerges and Czech Karolina Pliskova in the third round of the tournament that has postponed seven doubles matches due to heavy rain, according to the New York Times.
"The rain is beginning to clear at Melbourne Park and tournament officials hope to get play on outside courts started," the report stated.
"Seven doubles matches have already been postponed until Saturday, and more could follow. Matches had been scheduled to begin at 11 a.m."
Meanwhile, second seed Chinese Taipei sisters Chan Yung-Jan and Chan Hao-Ching will face Ukranian duo of Kateryna Bondarenko and Olga Savchuk in the third round of the Australian Open after cruising past Denisa Allertova of the Czech Republic and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands 6-1 6-1.
"We'd like to thank our Taiwanese fans at the Australian Open, as well as back in Taiwan, for cheering us on. We have made a good start and we'll continue to strive for good results," Yung-Jan wrote on Facebook, reports the Taipei Times.
