Alibaba Group and FIBA are set to join hands in promoting the game of basketball worldwide. According to reports, Jack Ma, Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group, led a delegation to meet the members of FIBA. Patrick Baumann, Secretary General of MIES-FIBA and IOC member welcomed the delegation on Saturday.
Productive talks were held between the biggest online commerce company in China and FIBA on the possibilities of teaming up for promoting basketball in China and worldwide. The move comes in view of the upcoming Basketball World Cup scheduled in 2019. It was reported that Dazhong Zhang, CEO of Alisports, the sports group of Alibaba, expressed his optimism in establishing a global strategy to promote basketball.
He was also reported to be saying that a long term partnership between the two is in the offing, in view of the positive dialogue they had. It was reported that the talks between Mr. Ma and Mr. Baumann were constructive, wherein both of them reached an understanding on how to work for promoting basketball in the best possible way.
Discussions were said to be held on how to provide a better tomorrow for future generations through promoting the game among the young people. The two agreed that the extensive network of consumers and partners and online platforms of Alibaba could be an indispensable tool for achieving the goal.
Mr. Zhang is said to have appreciated the efforts of FIBA in doing a lot for worldwide basketball fans, especially the fans in China. He said that Alibaba would really want to help 990 million global fans of the game to become more involved in the game, especially in view of the next Basketball World Cup scheduled to take place in China.
It is speculated that Alibaba, Alisports and FIBA would continue their discussions to finalize a strategy on the best ways to continue their comprehensive and long term partnership on various topics across vrious assets of FIBA in Asia, Europe and all ovr the world.
