After a three-month break, "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 is set to resume its run on the television. The ABC's long-running medical drama will pick up from episode 9 titled "The Sound of Silence" featuring harrowing events. As the show opens, the leading lady Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) will fight for her life. Here are spoilers for the next chapter of the series. Read on for more details.

As the show goes on air for its first 2016 episode, fans can expect to see massive drama in the hospital. The channel has released a synopsis for "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 midseason premiere on its official website. According to the press release, Meredith will find herself struggling to breathe after a patient of hers ferociously attacks her.
Badly wounded Meredith will be discovered by Penny (Samantha Sloyan). The doctors at the Grey Sloan Memorial put in all their efforts to save their beloved colleague and friend. A promo video for "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 teases the events of episode 9. The trailer shows that the doctors are back at work but their focus remains on Meredith, who struggles to survive after being beaten up by a patient.
Things don't look too good for Meredith, who is covered in the blood and struggling to breathe. Meanwhile, panic spreads among her co-workers as they try to bring her back. Alex can be seen by Meredith's side.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes revealed that what to expect when the show returns. According to Rhimes, the show will continue to explore Meredith and "who she's becoming." It is said the doctor's "evolution continues."
"The first episode that comes back is extraordinary and very, very powerful, and directed by Denzel Washington. It certainly puts us on a path for the beginning of the second half of the season," Rhimes said.
With so much happening, it is safe to assume that the episode 9 will revolve around Meredith. This means fans might have to wait before they find out what's next for Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew). In an interview with TV Line, Sarah Drew confirmed that fans will find out what Jackson was going to say to April. However, it won't happen in the first episode.
As for Alex's (Justin Chambers) proposal to Jo (Camilla Luddington), fans may have to wait a bit longer to find out Jo's answer. Considering episode 9 is Meredith-centric wherein Meredith is fighting for her life, Alex will be busy taking care of his friend.
