For many, the 16GB iPhone 6S becomes an eventual letdown as the model soon runs out of space. But the basic iPhone model sells anyway because it is the cheapest. Thankfully though, the device's internal storage can be bumped up to 128GB and the cash setback amounts only to $60.

In a short YouTube clip, picked up by 9to5Mac, the solution can be found on a sprawling shopping complex in China where a gadget modification and repair store only charges a steal of $60 for the upgrade. In matter of less than an hour, the process will be completed and the once 16GB iPhone 6S model is transformed to a 128GB edition.

The repairman on the video replaced the 16GB memory with a Toshiba chip that boasts of 128GB capacity.

As the video showed, the whole procedure will leave the modified 6S with more than 100GB of usable memory. Prior to the operation, it was a measly 10GB plus of space allowance.

Almost effortlessly, a young man on the clip unscrewed the bottom portion of the iPhone, lifted its front panel and took apart its internals to surgically remove the stock memory. But before inserting the fresh and more spacious memory chip, data transfer was performed.

"All of the device's storage is transferred to the new chip, so you don't lose any data in the process and can continue using the device with everything intact from before the upgrade," 9to5Mac reported.

For the trouble, the Chinese shop asked for $60 but the report said that lower memory upgrades would mean cheaper price. It would be $20 for the jump to 32GB and $35 if the choice is an increase of 64GB.

The shop, located in Shenzhen, China, seems to enjoy brisk business as the clip indicated that around 50 customers walk in per day for the modification, which is understandable as the same fix is not available on Apple Store. The recourse would be getting the higher model and pay a premium of $100 for the 64GB or $200 for the $128GB.

The storage upgrade, the clip said, works for the iPhone 6, iPad Air and later models. It should be noted, however, that the modding would lead to warranty void.
