After Chelsea Handler's late-night talk show "Chelsea Lately," which aired from 2007 to 2014 on E!, another late-night talk show hosted by a woman is set to air. Toronto native Samantha Bee is set to host her weekly talk show titled "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee," which will premiere on TBS on Feb. 8.
Aside from being the only female host in the late-night show category, a position originally held by Handler, Bee wants to stand out. In a recent interview, the Canadian host talked about her upcoming talk show.
When asked why a late-night show hosted by a woman is such a rare and radical concept, Bee told Entertainment Weekly that she really does not have the answer. She pointed out that she is not the only one who ever did it as Handler was the original only female late-night talk show.
"I do think there are women who have been offered late-night talk shows and haven't wanted to do them," Bee told the publication. She added that there is a quality-of-life issue to doing a nightly show and it is very difficult to achieve a pleasant life.
For Bee, doing a nightly show would destroy her life and she certainly would not want to do it. This is why she is said doing a show once a week like "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee" is perfect for her.
Before following Handler's footsteps as the only female host on late night TV, Bee became the longest-serving regular correspondent on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." In 2009, the Canadian comedian also had a cameo role in Woody Allen's comedy "Whatever Works."
Meanwhile, Handler is set to return to the small screen in May with her four-part Netflix docu-series titled "Chelsea Does" which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. She wanted to do a variety of things in her new project.
"Have fun, be ugly, be funny, sad, cry," Daily Herald quoted Handler as saying. "I wanted everything, like a phantasmagoria of experience, and I learned a lot and I had a great time filming all of them."
