The Church of Scientology is reportedly determined to find the right wife for Tom Cruise following his divorce with Katie Holmes. Multiple reports suggest that the "Mission: Impossible" star is waiting for the church's blessing before seeing somebody new.
According to Deadline, a new show titled "The Arrangement" drew a lot of interest after it was revealed that it had a lot of similarities with Cruise, Holmes and how scientology affected their life. E! however insisted that the series is not inspired by anyone in particular.
Back in 2012, Maureen Orth of Vanity Fair wrote an expose about Cruise, claiming that members of Scientology had an "elaborate audition process" to find the actor a "drop-dead-beautiful true believer" to share his life with.
Shelly Miscavige, wife of David Miscavige, chief of the Church of Scientology International, reportedly spearheaded the selection process. They call on actresses in the pretense of an audition for a new training film, then they will ask interesting questions including, "What do you think of Tom Cruise?"
Interestingly, the plot for "The Arrangement" is something quite similar. It follows the story of Megan Morrison (Christine Evangelista), a young actress who auditions to be the female lead in an upcoming movie opposite Kyle West (Josh Henderson), one of the world's top action movie stars. Her audition led to a first date, which led to "something more." Kyle took Megan to Italy, where Cruise and ex-wife Holmes were first spotted together.
Her life then took an unexpected turn after Kyle's mentor and his wife (who incidentally owns a self-help organization called the Institute of The Higher Mind) present offered her $10 million marriage contract with the action star. Megan must then decide, weighing the benefits and consequences of getting married to someone she barely knew.
The story is written by Jonathan Abrahams of "Mad Men."
Despite the similarities in Cruise's story, a spokesperson from E! claimed, via The Hollywood Reporter, that everything was just nothing but a coincidence. He added that Cruise and Kyle's character had a lot of differences.
"The character of Kyle West is not at all inspired by anyone in particular. Kyle is a young, rising star who was recently left at the altar by his actress ex-girlfriend."
In 2013, Cruise admitted that one of the reasons why he and Holmes break up was because of the Church of Scientology.
