During an interview with Pixel Dan at the Toy Fair 2016 in New York City early this week, National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) Toys product development director Randy Falk hinted that Sony is bringing back "Crash Bandicoot." This is perhaps an indication that the company, which works with the Japanese electronic entertainment giant on collectible figures, is still keen on reviving the video game franchise for a new generation.
It is not difficult to believe Falk's claim as it comes in the wake of PlayStation Middle East suggesting via a social media teaser that the game is likely to make a comeback in some form. Those who are still skeptical of Falk's claim may recall that the NECA's game title leaks have been reliable in the past and this is attributed to the company's association with Sony. In any case, NECA has created toys for the recent successful games of Sony like "Uncharted 4: The Thief's End" and "God of War," Latin Post reported.
During the interview, Falk remarked, "Looking at some of their other titles, they're looking at bringing 'Crash Bandicoot' back, which is really cool."
Nevertheless, a NECA representative has denied all rumors regarding the "Crash Bandicoot" revival. The representative claimed that apparently Falk's interview has been interpreted wrongly, Gematsu reported.
A statement issued by the NECA representative read, "It's not the case, someone has misunderstood a comment he made. Randy saw a faked fan-made image right before he came to the show and said that if the game were coming back, we'd love to do figures."
The denial by NECA representative notwithstanding, a number of things hint that Sony may really be interested in reviving "Crash Bandiccot." Prior to the launch of PlayStation 4, the Japanese company released a trailer that featured subtle images suggesting that they are bringing back "Crash Bandicoot."
Moreover, Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, came dressed in a "Crash Bandicoot" t-shirt having a PS logo on its sleeve at PlayStation Experience 2015 last December implying that the company had not given up hope on reviving the game. In addition, the official Twitter account of PlayStation Middle East has also teased "Crash Bandicoot" from time to time.
