Novak Djokovic has an interesting outline on how he could eclipse career rival Roger Federer's all-time Grand Slam record.
Djokovic is currently playing the best tennis of his career and is poised to eclipse Federer's all-time record of 17 major titles. But for him to accomplish such rare feat, Djokovic revealed he must remain with his usual approach, which has been the key for the tennis success the Serb is enjoying.
"But I always believed in myself and always approached each tournament with a great dose of self-confidence but also respect and humbleness toward the other rivals and awareness of not being the only one who wants to win big trophies and be the best," Djokovic said, reports Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times.
"With that in mind, that brought me here and so I'm just going to keep on going and try to maintain this kind of lifestyle and approach to the tennis world and hopefully I can get many more opportunities to win Grand Slam trophies and eventually fight for that all-time record."
Djokovic has won four of the last five Grand Slam events and has defeated Federer in the final round twice over that span. The 28-year-old Belgrade native is also touted to complete a calendar Grand Slam this season after falling short to claim the record last year.
Djokovic's next match will be at Indian Wells, where he plays as the tournament's top seed. The world No. 1 is a four-time Indian Wells champ and is looking to make it three in a row in this year's first ATP 1000 Masters tournament set in the desert of California.
After suffering an eye problem during the Dubai Tennis Championships in UAE, Djokovic said he is ready to once again perform in front of a huge crowd, where the Serb admitted is his source of energy.
"[The BNP Paribas Open is] setting a really high standard in attracting more fans and increasing the attendance each year," Djokovic said, reports the ATP's official website. "[I look] forward to performing in such circumstances in front of people who really appreciate me being there."
Djokovic, who received a first-round bye at the tournament, will open his Indian Wells campaign against USA's Bjorn Fratangelo, who defeated Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-4 6-4.
