“Person of Interest” has been officially cancelled after season 5. After CBS announced that the fifth season will be released on Tuesday, May 3, the network also confirmed that “POI” will end after season 5.
Speaking to IGN, "Person of Interest" producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman shared that they are both extremely excited for fans to see the last show's final season. Nolan and Plageman thanked the cast and crew, as well as the amazing fans of the CBS series.
While they enjoyed working on "Person of Interest" for the past five years, the showrunners held that it was time to say goodbye. They added that they could not wait for fans to experience the "thrilling" and final chapter of "POI."
Given that cancellation rumors have been circulating online for quite some time, the news of "Person of Interest" getting cancelled after season 5 did not come as a shock to viewers. The cast and writers themselves admitted that they treated the fifth season as if it were their last.
It was said that there will be no cliff hangers by the final episode, as they all wanted fans to have a satisfying ending. Producer J.J. Adams, however, admitted that they were disheartened to hear about the cancellation.
"The only heartbreak there is how much good story there was to come if it were to have continued."
Back in January, Adams also talked about the possibility of continuing Netflix or Hulu picking up "Person of Interest" after season 5. While this idea seemed plausible, the producer explained that it was not their priority back then.
With only 13 episodes in season 5, fans of "Person of Interest" cannot help but worry if this is enough to wrap up the series. Adams, however, assured fans that there will be no loose ends by the end of the fifth season.
On the other hand, many have yet to accept the cancellation, still thinking that Netflix or Hulu could end up picking up the show. The showrunners, however, seemed to have thrown in the towel, acknowledging that it is an expensive series to produce.
"Person of Interest" season 5 premieres May 3 on CBS.
