Residents of Charlotte, North Carolina are set to enjoy ultra-fast internet connection as Google plans to offer its Google Fiber service to the city. Media outlets in Charlotte reported that local officials are set to meet with Google executives in order to finalize the deal.
Google has yet to issue an official statement about the news. Currently, the Google Fiber service operates in three key locations in the United States: Kansas City, MO, Austin, TX and Provo, UT.
Bandwidth limit has been a serious issue when it comes to small businesses as well as entrepreneurs and even families who want to stay connected. Mobile data along with advances in cloud-based services have created massive amounts of internet traffic; in turn several internet service providers resorted to bandwidth throttling and usage limit in order to control the massive demand for bandwidth, according to Tech Republic.
The Google Fiber service has provided an answer for the on-going demand of ultra-fast internet speed and unlimited bandwidth. According to Google, its internet service can reach download speeds of as much as 1 gigabyte per second. This breakneck speed is 10 times faster than the usual broadband connection being offered by several internet service providers.
Google has already released a checklist for potential cities to receive the Google Fiber services with plans of bringing it to more than 34 locations.
Google has already showed great interest in expanding its Fiber service and the company is currently finalizing its deal in bringing Fiber into five major cities; Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Jose and Portland, according to the Washington Post.
For cities with existing Google Fiber connection, the internet service is offered at $70 per month.
