The Houston Rockets are considered as the biggest disappointment this season after barely making and finishing as the eighth seed in this year's playoffs compared to last year's Western Conference Finals finish against the Golden State Warriors.
Now, they are in the same position as they once again, face the Dubs. The only difference is, it is just the first round and the odds are against them after losing big in game one, 104-78.
The Rockets tried to look for a solution to their woes earlier this season. The front management were surprised that they lost twice to non-playoff teams as early as ten games into the season, when last year, they only lost twice at home to non-playoff teams for the whole year.
Due to the team underperforming, owner Leslie Alexander and the higher-ups decided to sack former head coach Kevin McHale and replace him with assistant coach, J.B. Bickerstaff. However, the new head coach was not able to do anything to turn things around as the Rockets finished 41-41.
Hence, GM Daryl Morey recently addressed the issue and admitted that they did not bring justice to the McHale firing. However, he did not say that the decision was wrong since they might have ended up in the same position with McHale on the helm.
"Was this decision fair? No. Was it correct? That is unknown as we don't know what coach McHale would have done if he had stayed," Morey posted in Quora.com. "I am comfortable we made the best decision for the team with the information we had at the time."
Nevertheless, the Rockets still have as much as six games to play to extend their season. Rockets star James Harden just knows what to do in the second game and that is to move more.
"Move our bodies a little bit more," ESPN quoted James Harden as saying in the post-game podium. "Everything that happened [on Saturday] was because of us."
Harden also acknowledged the brilliance of their opponent but that does not mean they are backing down. The bearded star said they still have a lot to show and fans will see it on April 18, Monday. Watch how the Warriors decimated the Rockets in their game one match-up.
