Most smartphone users harness their phone cameras as their main camera, and as much as possible, they want a camera experience that will be more like a real camera. As iPhone users love photography with their smartphone, the more they miss some things about typical cameras, one of which is the grip. While people love the sleek iPhone body, taking photos can put the user in a position that he will likely drop the handset.
Innovative maker of camera straps, mounts and bags, miggo, brings to Kickstarter, Pictar, an ergonomic camera grip for the iPhone that puts menu functions to buttons and wheels right at the top of the user's shooting finger. In short, Pictar will provide a conventional camera grip to the iPhone as well as DSLR controls sans the photography complications, according to Cult of Mac.
"It's an amazing camera but it always feels like it's going to fall out of your hands," Rafy David, co-founder of miggo told the tech site. "What we're trying to do is unleash the full power of the iPhone camera."
An optional neck or wrist strap also allows the user to keep the phone camera out, secure and ready as a serious photographer would likely not want to pocket the camera. Pictar will sport features to the camera grip so that fans might be willing to pay $90. The case is not a full case, but instead of a camera grip, it will be more of a holder.
It will expand to fit iPhone 4, 5 and 6 series but not the 6s series. It is not compatible with Android devices because it can only work with an iOS app, CNET has learned.
Pictar will use a high-frequency dual tone, from 18,500 to 20,000 kHz to talk to the iPhone. These tones and the app will allow the physical buttons of the grip and dials to control the functions of the camera. One can just slide the phone in, activate the app and shoot. It is powered by a watch battery, hence, there will be no frequent recharging needed.
The concept is not just to give better grip of the phone while shooting but to give more control of the settings which are skipped when one is in Auto. This includes ISO adjustments, exposure and shutter speed.
