Last season's runners-up VfL Wolfsburg (10-11-9, 39 points) is stumbling down the overall standings fast late in the 2015-2016 Bundesliga season. They next face lowly club FC Augsburg (8-13-9, 33 points) on Saturday, April 23rd at the Volkswagen Arena to try and snap their four-game winless slide.

Wolfsburg entered the season with high hopes of repeating their runner-up finish last year. Instead, the team is now at the eighth spot of the league table and in danger of not even advancing in the Europa League for next season.

The team is six points behind the Europa League berths currently held by Borussia Monchengladbach, Mainz, and Schalke while they are also 10 points below Hertha Berlin and the final Champions League qualifying spot.

Die Wölfe is coming off a disappointing 2-3 loss to bottom three team Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion last Saturday, as per ESPN.

Veteran Peruvian forward Claudio Pizarro opened the scoring for the hosts with a penalty kick at the 32nd minute which quickly equalized by the Wolves' French midfielder Josuha Guilavogui four minutes later.

After ending the first half tied at 1-1, Die Werderaner netted two goals in the second half, courtesy of midfielders Fin Bartels and Sambou Yatabare at the 64th and 83rd minutes, to take a 3-1 lead with seven minutes left in the match.

Wolfsburg was able to score another goal at the 86th with a close range header from striker Bas Dost but they ran out of time to pull off a comeback.

Meanwhile, Augsburg won its second consecutive game by nipping Stuttgart, 1-0, at the SGL Arena last Saturday, as reported by Vavel.

Fuggerstädter striker Alfred Finnbogason provided the lone goal of the contest at the 36th minute for head coach Markus Weinzierl's side as they leveled with Die Schwaben in the overall standings with 33 points each.

Even with their two-game winning run, Augsburg is still only two points above the bottom three relegation zone with four matchdays left in the season.

The predicted result is a 1-0 bounce back win for Wolfsburg.
