Despite their loss in Game 3, the Golden State Warriors are capable of winning against the Houston Rockets without Stephen Curry.
The championship is another matter.
Steph Curry returned to play against the Houston Rockets and the pregame interviews on him and coach Steve Kerr stated that he was well and ready to play. He did, but he suffered a potentially dangerous slip right before halftime and it kept him from returning in the game in the second half.
The Warriors mounted an impressive second half run even without their MVP anchored on Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green. Despite the win, the Warriors fans (and even the rest of the NBA) are more concerned with Curry's injury.
The big question is whether it's serious and how long will he be out?
Fansided posted updates and the most recent one stated that it was initially diagnosed as a sprained knee. It's almost certain that the Warriors will sit him out for the rest of the first round match-up which resumes in Oracle Arena, home of the Warriors on Wednesday night.
Curry is still due for MRI on Monday, but Fansided writer Josh Hill had a scary observation.
"That's (Curry's slip) a far cry from the tweak he appeared to have suffered in the first game of this series. No one wants to say it, but that looks like something that could result in a torn ACL diagnosis."
An ESPN report had Draymond Green sharing that Curry was crying after he sustained the injury but it was more about frustration on not being able to return to the game than a serious diagnosis.
"He was standing there crying, you know, and like, 'Dog, just get out of here. We'll hold you down.' We gotta support him, you know, and be there for him," Green shared. "I mean, he came out and obviously gave it a go, wasn't 100 percent, and he gave it a go, and it's unfortunate that that happened."
Green said they relied on the team's depth to win the game in convincing fashion. The Warriors defensive anchor, though, was quick to admit that losing Steph will cost them the championship.
"If Steph Curry's out, I'd probably write us off too. That's human nature [because] the guy's the MVP of the league, but we've got a team full of competitors. We're not gonna bow down or lay down against anyone. We're gonna continue to play our game, continue to try to win basketball games, no matter who's out there."
More information on Curry's injury will be revealed after the MRI procedure.
