"Castle" Season 8 is nearing its finale, which will also be Stana Katic's (Kate Beckett) final episode. The ongoing season of the ABC series will come to an end with episode 22 titled "Crossfire" and it will reportedly mark the final appearance of the leading lady of the series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers decided to write off Katic's character Beckett due to financial reasons. The actress will not be returning for possible Season 9, which is yet to be officially announced.
Katic is not the only actress who will no more be the part of the show. Actress Tamala Jones, who plays the role of Lanie Parish, will also be not returning after Season 8 finale.
In an interview with TV Line, "Castle" showrunner Terence Paul Winter revealed that Season 8 episode 22 will see Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett will solve the last case together involving LokSat. An unanticipated twist will reportedly put Castle and Beckett's "case, and their lives, in jeopardy."
Anything can happen. Fans must prepare themselves for a cliffhanger ending to "Castle" Season 8. It happens to be an alternate ending which will be used if ABC decides to renew the show for Season 9.
"We have one ending, a cliffhanger that we're excited about because we believe in 'Castle' and we believe that ABC will hopefully, hopefully bring us back," said Winter.
Meanwhile, several media outlets are speculating that Beckett might be killed in the finale. These reports lack official confirmation. At the same time, Katic's character may not get an ending she deserves.
"Several things. And all of them are... um... less than ideal," reports TV Line about Bckett's exit from "Castle." At the same time, the website reports that they can expect a significant time jump if the show returns for Season 9.
