Users of the Microsoft Edge browser on Windows 10 will be glad to know that the software will finally have ad blocking capabilities once the features are tested by Windows Insiders.

Online advertisements can often be intrusive and distracting when a user is browsing through the Internet. Some ads just pop up while others take on the full size of the screen.

Internet users have taken to using third-party ad blockers which may sometimes cost money. Now, Microsoft Edge will reportedly have ad blocking capabilities through browser extensions without having to install another application or software.

Microsoft had already announced that more than 300 million users are already running Windows 10 on their systems and mobile devices. That means the number of Edge users may have also increased.

However, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are still on the top of the list when it comes to Internet browsers. Edge has a lot of ground to cover if they want to catch up.

With the new ad blocking functionality, it could be expected that more users could try to use Edge instead of the other browsers. Windows Insiders can already test out the new feature, Thurrott has learned.

Ad blockers became a huge deal after publishers have voiced out their concerns that they would not be able to provide "free" content if viewers do not see the ads. Their revenue comes from the users viewing the ads on their site.

One of the caveats of using the Edge browser was its lack of support for add-ons and extensions. Microsoft has been testing a version of the browser with the said support in March, Engadget reported.

Once all the testing is done, Microsoft Edge browser users will be able to install supported extensions. Besides ad blockers, there could be others that users would want to install.

Opera's developer browser has a built-in VPN mode for free. It allows users to surf the web anonymously and through virtual networks. The Windows 10 Internet browser could also use a similar function which can help attract more users.

Microsoft Edge browser users will have to wait until the Redmond-based company officially launches the updated version with extension support. Only then they will be able to find and use ad blockers with the browser.
