The NBA Draft sequence is now clear after the lottery but there are still numerous scenarios that can happen.
The Boston Celtics just fell out of the coveted top 2 spots and is the leader on the field of uncertainty. Mock drafts and big boards have as many as five different options at the no.3 spot and the Boston Celtics also have the option to trade the pick.
However, it was reported that at least one prospect is not so enthusiastic to wear green-or purple and orange for that matter.
In a pre-draft show on The Vertical at Yahoo Sports, Adrian Wojnarowski said that Kris Dunn, projected as the best point guard of this draft class, has already indicated that he does not want to be drafted by the Boston Celtics or the Phoenix Suns (3rd and 4th respectively).
This is not for any reason other than the Celtics and Suns having young, talented point guards. Boston was bannered by Isaiah Thomas who became a first-time All-Star and also Marcus Smart. The Suns have Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight.
According to Woj, (h/t Hardwood Houdini) "Dunn didn't submit a physical during the NBA Draft Combine last week and reports are saying he might not submit them to Boston and Phoenix. This would definitely be a huge road block for the teams picking third and fourth in this year's draft."
This is one way that players' agents can somehow manipulate the outcome of the draft for their client. However, in the end, there is really nothing that can stop the Boston Celtics or Phoenix Suns from choosing Kris Dunn.
The only caveat is that they would be opening themselves to a messy situation and the agents can make the situation seem troublesome for both parties, the team would just be forced to pick someone else.
To this end, a separate Hardwood Houdini article suggested some options for Boston. The most likely outcome is for the team to draft Buddy Hield of Oklahoma. He is an NBA ready shooter who is not afraid to take over in crunch time.
Another option is Jamal Murray who is more of a combo guard but he is more inclined to score than anything else. Murray has more upside than Hield being just a freshman. There would be questions of fit because of Isaiah Thomas, but the Celtics can keep him as trade bait if it doesn't work as interest for Murray among other teams is high.
Of course, for the Celtics and Trade Danny, trading the pick is always an option. Murray, Hield and Dunn could fill positions of need for teams bereft of scoring guards. Including the pick in a package could yield a superstar (hint: Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls).
