Xbox One gaming console will soon be able to get Torrex Pro, the same torrent download app that is currently available go Windows 10 devices.
The popular Windows 10 torrent app, Torrex Pro, was recently got an update ahead of the upcoming merger between Windows store and Xbox store, According to VG 24/7. As a result of that merger , Microsoft's gaming console Xbox One will also be able to download the torrent app.
At the moment, Torrex Pro is a paid Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app developed by Estonian developer known as Finebits OÜ. The app allows the user to stream videos, playback audio files, and download files.
Meanwhile, Wired.co.uk says that the functionality of Torrex Pro on the gaming console has yet to be seen as the gamers barely have access to the console's hard drive at the moment. Specifically, access to the Xbox hard drive is limited to backing games up to external storage. Addionally, browsing illegal torrent sites using the built-in web browser may reportedly be quite inconvenient if not banned altogether by Microsoft.
On the other hand, the online news site assumes that it may function as an alternate media player instead. It was also noted that even if peer-to-peer file sharing through a torrent client may be legal as a technology, distributing pirated content is not. Thus, Finebits states in the documentation for Torrex Pro PC version that the application is meant only for downloading and sharing legal content.
At the moment, a Finebits OÜ representative could not yet give any information as to how the app will work with the Xbox One. Instead, he told the online magazine, "...since UWP means a common API and program model for all supported platforms, we suppose that Torrex will be used on Xbox in the same manner as it's used on desktop at the present time."
Until further information is released on how a torrent client may be useful to Xbox One, users may just have to wait until it is finally available for console download after Windows and Xbox stores become one.
