It looks like the actress to play Carol Danvers in the "Captain Marvel" movie adaptation will be named soon as "Room" actress Brie Larson is currently the favorite to land the role.
Countless Hollywood actresses' names have been thrown to the table, such as Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain and Olivia Wilde among others. Majority of them have expressed their interest in the role but Marvel did not comment on any possible casting. After winning an Oscar for her performance in "Room," Larson became one of the favorites to land the role and she is said to be inclined to take it, Variety reported.
As of the moment, no director has been named but "Inside Out" writer Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman are already working on the film's script. Perlman once gave a hint that fans will see a struggling Danvers before she acquires her powers. Danvers is a pilot who accidentally got caught in an incident with an alien, which caused their DNA to fuse, granting her superhuman strength, flight and ability to shoot energy projectiles.
Since nothing is official, it would be interesting to see if Marvel will actually turn on a different direction. Should they look at an actress' star power, perhaps, "Game of Thrones" actress Natalie Dormer fits the bill. The actress mentioned that she is looking for potential mega-blockbuster films which Marvel has been producing since 2008.
"I love being part of huge mega blockbusters and I love being a part of small independent films and small stage," Inverse quoted Dormer saying. "I'm just looking at the material. I want to know the character and I want to know the text, and then the decision I make from there."
Also, Jessica Chastain is very much interested in the role and she does not want to be just a superhero's girlfriend, she wants to be the one wearing the mantle herself. As for Emily Blunt, she stated before that comic book characters are simply not her forte and it might be best if someone else portray the role.
