Popular television shows, such as "Game of Thrones" and "The Walking Dead", are making people living in Britain lose their sexual desire, according to a statistician from Cambridge University.
There is a "worrying" decline in sex rates among Britons, the research claims. Speaking at the Hay festival, Professor David Spiegelhalter claimed that British couple, who were once very much sexually active, is having much less sexual activity that before, according to The Telegraph. The Winton Professor of the Public Understanding of Risk described the trend as "very worrying," for there has been a continuous decline in sex rates among Britons in the past three decades.
According to Spiegelhalter, British couples used to have sex at least five times a month in the 1990s. However, the frequency of sex has reduced to three in the past 20 years, a decline rate of almost 40 percent. What is more worrying is the fact that if the decline continues at this rate, the couples in Britain would stop having sex by the end of 2030.
A number of television shows such as "Game of Thrones" and "The Walking Dead" have gained popularity around the world, especially in the recent years. Moreover, the rise of connectivity supported by smartphones, box-sets and Netflix has further increased the interest for these shows.
The availability of different modes to catch the latest episode of one's favorite show means that people so not get bored now. Every form of entertainment is available at the palm of their hand.
"At this rate, by 2030 couples are not going to be having any sex at all. Which is a very worrying trend," Spiegelhalter said, according to the publication. "You say why? Statisticians say I don't know. One of the researchers mentioned the word iPad. I think it's the box set, Netflix. OMG I've got to watch the entire second series of 'Game of Thrones.'"
In the past, watching television excessively has been linked to reduced fertility in males, according to the Daily Mail. It is believed that healthy men who watch more than 20 hours of television in a week end up having 44 percent lower sperm count than other men who almost do not watch television. This is a clear sign of infertility.
