The entertainment sphere was surprised with the recent news of the Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama split on June 3, Fiday, while some people close to the ex-couple said it was expected. The two dated for almost six years until they realized they are better off as friends than lovers. The exes said they are still the best of friends.
"It had turned into more of a big brother-little sister kind of relationship," E! News had been exclusively told by a source. The person added, "The romance wasn't what it used to be."
Valderrama has been close to Lovato's family and it is not expected to change as there was a lot of love there. The guy is still protective to the singer, even helping in building her brand and in product line launches.
As someone who does not want to ride on her fame, he does not take the frontline. The TV personality is still protective of Lovato, doing a lot for her especially when she has health problems. Their love, however, is more of a friendship than romance.
Despite the closeness and he thinking she is his soulmate, a second source said the Venezuelan-descent actor does not think they are for marriage as they are not in such space. The pair announced their split in a joint statement on social media.

The Lovato-Valderrama breakup was shocking their followers since the ex-couple have been constantly praising one another. The 23-year-old singer opened up that she hoped to marry him someday. Lovato expressed her gratefulness toward him for being by her side, such as when her father died and during her struggles with substance abuse and eating disorder. In March 2015, she celebrated three years of sobriety with Valderrama and thanked him for keeping her alive.
I wish I could put into words how grateful I am for this man right here. But my love has grown to a level that words could never possibly express how much this man completes me. He's loved me the way I never thought I deserved to be loved and with this day marking my 3rd year sober... After sharing my ups, putting up with my downs and supporting my recovery... he still never takes credit and I want the world to know how incredible his soul is. I really wouldn't be alive today without him. I love you Wilmer ❤️ A photo posted by Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) on Mar 15, 2015 at 11:26pm PDT
Calling a radio station in New Zealand, the singer was asked if she would marry him. She replied, "I am very, very in love with him. I think-we will probably wait a little bit longer."
Lovato has been honest as ever. She added, "But-if he asked tomorrow I would say yes."
After the breakup, Lovato spent her time working in the studio as she had previously confirmed her next album is in the works, Entertainment Tonight reported. The pop star will release new tunes on her upcoming Future Now tour with Nick Jonas.
