Motorola has unveiled their new modular Moto Z flagship Android smartphone for 2016 which has a 1440P AMOLED display and 2600mAh for the battery to last more than a day.
The new Moto Z modular smartphone specs features a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1460 AMOLED display which will help the battery last even longer. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset.
AMOLED screens are better at power efficiency because only the non-black pixels light up and use up energy. If most of the screen is dark or black, the panel will not consume as much as energy compared to the traditional IPS LCD displays found on most phones today.
Moto Z features 4GB RAM and up to 64GB for the internal storage, Ars Technica reported. Users still have the option for expandable storage through the microSD card slot.
Multimedia enthusiasts may want to increase their storage option as the screen would be good for watching 1440p movies. Most 1080p movies are already sized at around 2GB and the higher resolution files tend to weigh in up to 4GB or more.
The Moto Z also features a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization and laser autofocus. For the front, the phone has a 5MP snapper with wide angle lens.
Unlike the upcoming Galaxy Note 7, the phone only has a fingerprint sensor. Samsung's Iris scanners may take a while before it can be imitated by other smartphone manufacturers.
One caveat for future Moto Z users is that they would not be able to directly plug in their 3.5mm earphones and headphones, Engadget reported. They will have to use the USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapter which will be included in the box itself when it ships.
The exclusion of the standard audio jack is part of the compromise that Motorola had to do to make the modular smartphone even thinner. At its thickest point, it is only 5.19 millimeters thick.
Motorola will ship the unlocked Moto Z with 2600mAh battery by September across the globe. Users in the United States will be able to grab the phone through Verizon's Droid data plans this summer for a yet undisclosed monthly fee.
