"Vikings" Season 4B premiere is just around the corner, and the show is wrapped with excitement as to what good fortune or misfortune will come to Ragnar Lodbrok and the other key players on the show.
In the "Vikings" Season 4 midseason finale, a drugged-up Ragnar (played by Travis Fimmel) was defeated by his brother Rollo (played by Clive Standed) during the siege in Paris. A time jump took place thereafter, and it was revealed that Ragnar disappeared shortly after the war. When he returned, his sons have already grown up. Still reeling from his absence, his heirs are gunning to take over their father's seat as King of Kattegat.
Although it appears that the next half of "Vikings" Season 4 will delve on the power struggle within the Lodbrok brood and Ragnar's challenge to his sons, "Vikings" creator Michael Hirst assured fans that Ragnar is not retiring just yet.
"Ragnar's story is nowhere near the end. Nowhere near the end, and it's just an amazing, onward story," Hirst told The Hollywood Reporter. "It may be the story of the rise and fall of a hero - it still counts as a fall, I suppose - but some of my best work and Travis' work comes in the next half of the season. If you think you've seen stuff from Travis yet, you haven't."
The time jump is also said to reveal a lot about what's to come in "Vikings" Season 4B. All of Ragnar's sons, whom viewers met in the midseason finale of "Vikings" Season 4, will take the spotlight in Season 4B. Of his four sons, it is evident that Bjorn, played by Alexander Ludwig, will lead the new generation of Vikings.
"When I was told we were going to introduce these new brothers and they're going to be older and it's going to revolve around this new generation and I'll be leading that, it was super exciting to see," Ludwig said in an interview with IGN.
While Bjorn is the obvious pick to become Ragnar's successor, he may have to face a surprising rival - his own brother Ivar the Boneless. Ragnar will form a special relationship with his son with Aslaug. Even though Ivar is a cripple, Ragnar sees powerful potential in him and "believes that his mentality is the strongest thing."
The next half of "Vikings" Season 4 ("Vikings" Season 4B) release date is reportedly scheduled for June or July.
