WiFi connections at home can be problematic at times. Plume wants to take care of the problem with their new plug-in pods that extend the wireless connection throughout the home.
Eero already implements the same concept but what makes Plume notable is its significantly cheaper price than the former. The pods are also stylish in a way that pleases the homeowner and guests due to its design.
All of the walls and appliances inside a home can block and interfere with the WiFi connections. The result is that someone upstairs would have problems connecting or someone in the kitchen watching a YouTube video for a Pesto pasta recipe will have their player buffering.
Plume aims to end the WiFi connection probems at home with their Pods that extend the connectivity all throughout the house provided that there is a wall socket, Engadget has learned. It is even cheaper at $49 for each pod while Eero costs $200 per unit.
There haven't been any reviews yet of the product but the company claims that their products will be faster but have a cheaper price tag. They are currently in the pre-selling stage with $39 per pod for early adopters.
Users can setup the Plume network with their app. The Pods will communicate with the Plume Cloud in order to work the magic of optimizing the WiFi connection at home, The Verge reported.
The Pods work by calculating where the user is currently located. The farther the user is, the stronger the WiFi signal will be beamed.
Plume describes the technology as Adaptive WiFi, which basically means that more bandwidth is given to someone who needs it the most. For instance, someone streaming 4K videos will get more bandwidth compared to someone who is just browsing the Internet for GTX 1080 reviews and GTX 1080 Ti rumors.
The setup could also work for small offices as well. Most homes would just buy a more powerful router rather than to plug in the connection extenders.
Plume promises to ship their Pods by fall 2016. Hopefully, product reviews will come out by then to gauge whether it is actually a better choice than the expensive Eero for fixing WiFi connections at home.
