Episode 1 of "The Walking Dead" Season 7 will surely end up attracting millions of television viewers eager to know who Negan killed with the barb wired Lucille. TWD producer AMC deliberately left the question hanging and in order to preserve the mystery Glenn, Rick, Daryl and all the captives lined up before Negan in Season 6 finale were all killed.
In a report, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) said that killing off all major TWD characters was AMC's idea of keeping a tight lid on Season 7 spoilers. Specifically, AMC is looking to keep Lucille's victim under wraps until after the TDW S07 E01 airing so the decision was made to just film Rick and company getting the brutal blows delivered by Negan with his barb wired-wrapped baseball bat named Lucille.
"Sources tell THR that each of the 11 cast members involved in the scene have already filmed a death scene," the report said. The 11 TWD characters were identified as Carl (Chandler Riggs), Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Arron (Ross Marquand), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn (Steven Yeun).
But just to be clear, Negan's Lucille will not in reality have a massacre of some sort. Only one of the TWD characters on their knees will end up dead. "The Walking Dead producers and the episode director will then work with the show's editors and pick the character who does indeed die," THR reported.
Negan beating down the 11 characters in succession was deemed the most effective way for AMC to keep the TWD Season 7's biggest secret - "Who Negan killed?" In the face of TWD fans' continuing efforts to squeeze spoilers and clues and get the answers to their burning questions, AMC is forced to employ creative guises.
The THR report said that with Season 7 currently filming, fans even send drones to the set for glimpses of the things to come but AMC is keeping steps ahead by faking the brutal death scenes, leaving even the TWD cast and crew members guessing who will end up killed by Negan.
If the TWD showrunners would only be faithful to the comic book of The Walking Dead, Lucille's victim is none other than Glenn but the beloved character has cheated death before and the same thing happening again would be hardly surprising. AMC, after all, has previously shown the willingness to deviate from the original storyline in the same way that their "Game of Thrones" (HBO) counterpart did.
The Walking Dead Season 7 is expected to resume broadcast on AMC October 2016.
