Atlus has announced a new playable character as well as some "Cooperation" characters in the much-awaited JRPG "Persona 5".
Goro Akechi will join the eight previously announced playable characters consisting of Ryuji Sakamoto, Anne Takamaki, Yusuke Kitagawa, Morgana, Makoto, Niijima, Futaba Sakura, Haru Okumura, as well as the unnamed silent protagonist.
In a report by Siliconera, Goro was described as a high school student who also happens to be a detective. Unfortunately, no other details were given, so fans will have to wait for further updates.
In terms of characters, "Persona 5" appears to follow the same format as most "Persona" games which feature high school students with distinct but stereotypical characteristics as the lead characters.
Also, Atlus gave more details regarding some of the "Cooperation" characters which the protagonist may encounter in the game and who would help him as he progresses in the game.
These introduced "Cooperation" characters consist of Munehisa Iwai, Sojiro Sakura and Tae Takemi.
According to the Persona Central website, Persona 5's "Cooperation" game mechanic will be the equivalent of a game feature which has been introduced in "Persona 3" and "Persona 4" known as "Social Link, wherein the protagonist builds up his relationship with various people, which would yield benefits in battle. For instance, there are Personas that can only be unlocked by maxing out relationships with certain persons.
"Persona 5" is the sixth installment in the "Persona" series, which is part of the Megami Tensei franchise. On July 19, players will gather at the Tokyo National Museum and will have the chance to check out the final version of the game before its scheduled release for the PlayStation 3 and Playstation 4 in Japan on Sept. 15. Players in North America and South America can purchase the game on February 14, 2017. Meanwhile, there is no release date in Europe.
In addition, "Persona 5" has already been rated in Japan. According to the Japanese ratings board, Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO), the game garnered a C rating which meant that that this is recommended for persons 15 years old and above. Other elements like crime, drugs, language, romance and sexuality have also been considered and may have factored in for Persona 5's rating. Thus, the soon-to-be released game is described as slightly mature based on its age restrictions.
