The midseason premiere of "Vikings" Season 4 is just around the corner, and fans are rushing to know what's up with Ragnar and his kin, following the major cliffhanger in episode 10.
Ragnar (played by Travis Fimmel) went head to head with his brother Rollo (played by Clive Standen) in the siege of Paris. A drugged up Ragnar led his Viking army to France in the hopes of claiming victory, only to return home a loser with his troops in critical condition.
After a surprise time jump, Ragnar went back to Kattegat after years of absence. By the time he returned, his sons have all grown up and are gunning to take Ragnar's throne as king. Following this chain of events, is Ragnar's reign finally over and are his sons ready to take center stage? What's for sure is that Ragnar's eldest son, Bjorn (played by Alexander Ludwig), will be leading the pack.
"When I was told we were going to introduce these new brothers and they're going to be older and it's going to revolve around this new generation and I'll be leading that, it was super exciting to see," Ludwig told IGN.
However, Bjorn is not the only strong contender to become Ragnar's successor - there's still Ivar The Boneless, Ragnar's son with Aslaug. Ivar is said to form a special relationship with his father, as the latter sees a powerful potential in him. Ragnar believes that despite his crippled state, "his mentality is the strongest thing."
However, Ragnar is not ready to bow out just yet, and "Vikings" creator Michael Hirst has promised more great things to come for the mighty warrior.
"Ragnar's story is nowhere near the end. Nowhere near the end, and it's just an amazing, onward story," Hirst said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "It may be the story of the rise and fall of a hero - it still counts as a fall, I suppose - but some of my best work and Travis' work comes in the next half of the season. If you think you've seen stuff from Travis yet, you haven't."
Hirst also stated that what's going to happen to Ragnar is "unbelievable," and that fans should be ready to "shed a lot of tears."
"Vikings" Season 4 will continue on July 7 on History Channel.
