Fans are busy trying to buy the new Radeon RX 480 reference cards but little do they know that AMD has slipped and confirmed the existence of a more powerful Polaris card, the RX 490.
It has been a day since the launch of the RX 480 4GB and 8GB models for $199 and $239, respectively. However, AMD may be teasing their fans with the RX 490 as they included it in the list of the official "WE'RE IN THE GAME" promo eligible products.
There hasn't been much news regarding a higher-end card in the Polaris line of GPUs from AMD. They have recently announced the low to mid-end range cards such as the Radeon RX 470 and the RX 460 which is marketed towards 1080p and e-sports gaming.
The list of the eligible products for the AMD promo included the Radeon RX 490 card which has not yet been announced by the company, TechFrag has learned. Unfortunately, the official list has been revised and the new GPU is nowhere to be seen after PCPer posted the image.
Even the Radeon RX 480 card was removed from the revised list along with the RX 490. Still, it has more or less confirmed that it already exists and it could already be in the development considering that it came from AMD's official website.
Besides the new Polaris card, the list also showed two new accelerated processor units. The Bristol Ridge APUs A12-9700P and the A12-9730p was also included in the promo eligibility list with the RX 490, Digital Trends reported.
Some speculate that the new card will be powered by the Polaris 10 XT GPU. The said GPU is also the one that most partner cards of the RX 480 will be based on such as those from XFX and Powercolor.
There are no leaked specs yet for the RX 490 but it could be a higher-end model in the Polaris 10 line if the numbering is to be followed. However, some may wonder why AMD did not lead with their high-end card first to topple the GTX 1080.
Since the RX 480 just launched and the RX 470 plus the RX 460 will still follow, the Radeon RX 490 release date could still be several months ahead. AMD will have to keep it quiet first if they want their current Polaris 10 cards to sell more.
