"Game of Thrones" star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who portrays Jaime Lannister believes that in the range of 1 to 100, his character is now at point 99.9 of leaving Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). Both Jaime and his twin sister Cersei are motivated to protect their children who are now all gone.
Jaime is the character some people love to hate but Coster-Waldau has managed to make him lovable at times. Now the HBO fantasy drama is coming to an end, fans wonder if Jaime would ever become the good man he seems to be fated.
Jaime's acts in the drama during the earlier seasons were really cruel. He pushed the young Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) out of the window, making him crippled after being comatose. In "Game of Thrones" season 6 episode 10 on June 26, Sunday, his son King Tommen Baratheon (Dean-Charles Chapman) leapt to his death from the castle window.
Lannister pushed Stark to protect his children with twin sister, Cersei, with whom he has an incestuous relationship . As of present, all their children are already gone, thanks to Cersei's rudeness and greedy ambitions.
In this season's finale, Jaime is torn between his love for Cersei and some good intentions. He lost another child, Cersei already sits on the Iron Throne following an explosive coup that she plotted, and his younger brother Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is coming back with Daenerys Targaryen (Emila Clarke), Cersei's rival for power.
Coster-Waldau's character dramatically changed. He lost his job and another child. He left King's Landing and returned with horrible things confronting him. In the final scene, he and Cersei were looking at each other intensely.
"I think basically he's in shock. So many things are going through his head," Coster-Waldau told The New York Times in a telephone interview on June 27, Monday. "You look down and you see your sister telling the rest of the world to go to hell. The woman you love has turned into this seemingly mad woman."
The actor said every couple's counselor would tell Jaime to reconsider his relationship with his sister. While the Jaime-Cersei relationship is abusive and dysfunctional, it is a wonder why people can still stick to it. Cersei caused their son to commit suicide, and f Jaime can still forgive her, then he can forgive her for everything.
Cersei may have all the power now and while she has Jaime, she is actually just herself. Yet, no one would know what will transpire in the drama.
With the drama creators saying there are 13 episodes left, there have been spinoff rumors. If the spinoff is Jaime-based, it could be Jaime and Bronn or Jaime and Brienne .
"What would you call that? Roommates? The Heartslayer? Yeah, why not," the 45-year-old Danish actor said in the interview. "But it has to be a sitcom, though, and it has to have a laugh track. Then I would do it in a heartbeat."
Successful as he was, Coster-Waldau has been through tough times in real life as well, which he never had regrets. His father whom he lost in 1998, was alcoholic. His mother worked hard to give the best to her children, even those she could not afford, so police officers had to visit them which were really embarrassing moments, he told Red Bulletin.
As an actor, he was rejected many times, including his failure to get the lead in the 2012 "John Carter." However, he was cast in "Game of Thrones," which became a huge hit.
