"League of Gods" is a new Chinese fantasy movie starring Jet Li and Fan Bingbing which will open in China on July 29. The movie is being advertised as a "Chinese X-Men" movie due to its fantasy theme and the action-packed scenes featured in its official trailer.
The story was patterned to "Fengshen Beng," an Ancient Chinese mythology which features a unique group of Chinese superheroes. It also features the overthrowing of King Zhou who is the last ruler of Shang dynasty. Zhou was casted under the spell of a vixen spirit named Daji, who is one of his concubines.
Aside from Jet Li and Fan Bingbing, the cast also includes Tony Leung Ka-Fai as King Zhou, Louis Koo as Mahamayuri, Angelababy of "Independent: Resurgence" as The Mermaid and Jacky Heung as Leizhenzi. A CGI of a butt-kicking baby with super powers will also be showcased as one of the lead characters of the upcoming film, Deadline reported.
The creative team includes composer John Debney of "The Jungle Book," sound designer Brent Burge of "The Hobbit," and editor Wayne Philip Wahrman of "I am Legend." Animation will be directed by Randall William Cook of "The Lord of the Rings"
"League of Gods" was written by Cheryykoko and Samson Sun. Produced by Directed by Charles Heung and Tiffany Chen, and directed by Koan Xu, the summer action fantasy film will be released through Bona Film Group in over 15,000 theaters.
Meanwhile, IM Global and Sony Pictures Releasing International will be distributing the movie on different parts of the world. IM Global will sell the project in Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Japan, South Korea, Israel and the Middle East, Screen Daily reported.
On the other hand, Sony Pictures Releasing International will be distributing it in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, New Zealand and the West indies. Both
