The fifth episode of "Pretty Little Liars" Season 7 has given avid fans a treat with the unexpected marriage proposal between the Ezria couple. The series' showrunner has hinted that the said storyline was something that they had planned out since the start of the year.
Episode 5 titled "Along Comes Mary" that aired on Tuesday, July 19, was filled with exciting and suspenseful scenes where beloved characters each faced their own challenges. However, the scene that has made many viewers happy was the long-awaited Ezria proposal between Lucy Hale's character Aria and Ian Harding's Ezra.
Showrunner Marlene King shared during an interview with Entertainment Tonight that the two characters' romance is a relationship that has become undeniable. The Ezria couple has also appealed to many of the show's fans over the years. She explained that as the series' first couple, it is only fitting for the two characters to become engaged first.
King also teased that they initially planned to include an Ezria proposal during the series' Season 5. However, they decided not to push ahead with the said storyline at that time. The showrunner also weighed in on the cliffhanger fifth episode where Aria's answer was not shown. King stated that viewers will learn the character's response in the upcoming episode, although she also shared one reason why Aria may say "no."
Hale's character, along with the other Liars, have been harboring a big secret that involves Elliot death. Aria may hesitate to accept Ezra's marriage proposal given her involvement in the said secret, King explained. She mentioned that the situation will ultimately impact Aria's decision.
Meanwhile, it appears that Ezra will go through a tough time in the upcoming sixth episode titled "Wanted: Dead or Alive." The episode's synopsis posted on TV.com has indicated that Ezra will have to deal with an awkward relationship. It remains unclear if the "awkward relationship" refers to Aria potentially saying "no" or if Ezra's past relationship with the deceased Nicole will somehow wreak havoc on his current relationship.
"Pretty Little Liars" Season 7 airs every Tuesday on Freeform.
